Happy Birthday, Max!

It's hard to believe that our little boy in now two. It's even harder to imagine what life was like before him.
We had another busy weekend. Friday night, Max went swimming at the Festival Inn with his cousins Hannah and Thomas. It won't be long before Max asks for a swimming pool at home. He just loves the water. After the swim we had a little parade to celebrate the beginning of the weekend.

On saturday we went to see the Winterfest activities which included ice sculptures, a ride on the Appleland train and of course, toboganning. Max wasn't sure what to make of the toboggan but after his first ride, he more interested. But not too much.

Here he is playing with the new toys.

Birthday Weekend in Toronto
We did a birthday trip to Toronto this weekend with Max and his grandparents.
My mom and dad drove down from Ottawa on friday and we met them at the Rainforest Cafe in Yorkdale. The restaurant was quite an experience. The entire room is decorated like a rainforest with fake animals and vegetation everywhere. Every few minutes something different would happen: the gorillas in one section would start making noise, the elephants might trumpet or there could be a storm could be passing through. There was a waterfall, a moving aligator and aquariums all over. This is the first restaurant where he didn't get bored.

We stayed at the Hilton Suites hotel in Markham so we can be near the zoo and yummy Chinese food.
The next morning, we had Dim Sum at the Pacific Mall in Markham. If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a minority, I suggest that you go there. Almost evey single person there is Chinese so while my parents and I fit in. On the other hand, Mary, Perry and Sarah stuck out like me at an a Preston Manning family reunion.
Next stop was the main event of the weekend, the Toronto Zoo. It was a little cold but it was sunny out so it wasn't too noticeable while we dashed between pavillions. Max's favourite was the Sumatran Tiger...

He also enjoyed dining with the silver back gorillas...

We had two swims at the hotel swimming pool. Max now jumps into the water by himself and can hold his breath for the few seconds that he is under water.
On sunday, we had breakfast at Cora's near by and a trip to Golf Town where he played on the putting green while Nana shopped for clothes and his daddy contemplated a new driver. After a little lunch, we headed for home. After the busy weekend, Max fell asleep for the entire 1 hour and 45 minute car ride home.
It's hard to believe that Max will be turning 2 next week. He is a wonderful boy and brings so much joy to us all.

Christmas
Christmas was a bit of a blur this year. Max and I started feeling sick on Christmas eve and by Boxing day all three us us were sick. We drove up to Ottawa anyway (bad idea) and were sick the whole time there. We're still getting over this cold.
Max got a drum set and some other toys but most importantly, he started with Thomas the Train. We have a table set up with it and he loves crashing the trains together and ripping appart the tracks. Do you think that one day he'll actually enjoy putting them together?
Here are a few pictures. I tried to find some where Max's nose wasn't running.
